Before praising more on your work, this ANZAC thing is told as a shameful policy of British colonialism here in TR. It's not been too long I've come to realise you actually volunteered for it and those Anzac soldiers were actually an offspring of British men. Back in the school's syllabus I used to imagine them like some sort of colonised people who were brought there by British and made to fight by force 😅 I have read about your identity and this " white people" policy etc. in Upheaval by J. Diamond and learned ANZACs are one of cornerstones of your national identity. Back in the days there used to be some commemoration ceremonies for soldiers of both side, who lost their lives in Çanakkale. Was this also a left thing ? Whatever the answer TR might have lost its " prestige " at the last decade.
Nevertheless your work, your quotation and the paintings you add... When I saw that painting I was immediately reminded Illiad and booom! You mentioned Achilles but was careful enough to not mention Hector :) Obviously you do enjoy creating this work man ! The musics in your podcasts and these paintings... Congratulations. I like this type of content which's focused on Western conquerors and forming a new identity. I think one day you'll even write a book! Srsly.
By the way a cannibal Guinean troop is a nice idea but couldn't figure it out why being a Bulgarian sucks :)
Excellent work. Canadian here. What's happening in Australia is happening in Canada. The land acknowledgement is everywhere and entirely performative. It has done nothing, and I mean nothing, to aid, assist or lift up Canada's indigenous people. It is only used to abuse and beat down old stock Canadians, making it extremely difficult for them to protest/contest what's happening to our country.
Canada, too, is engaged in an all-out effort to destroy what made it one of the greatest countries in the world. We are doing this through mostly unfettered DEI programs, overcharged environmentalism, indigenous reparations, and uncontrolled immigration. Perhaps most concerning is that we've elected a government that will continue these programs for another two years at least.
In ten years, Canada will truly be a post-nationalist state that will be unrecognizable from what it was only 20 years ago. You can see it now in almost any major urban center. It sounds like Australia isn't far behind.
Great and surprisingly rousing article. I am glad I stumbled upon it — thanks to the note from John Carter referencing it (Ol’ Captain Jack does, after all, remind one of the noblest Anzac warriors). Also, thanks for including such excellent illustrations (paintings, sculpture, & architecture, no less. Bravo!). As a “classically trained” artist (that’s what they call me) I appreciate that you did not use any stupid AI produced images, but also that you added a photo of Roberts at work on his massive painting (just seeing the image of the painting I would have had no idea how large it is). That photo was especially poignant, for me, since it serves to highlight in general the “heroic” efforts it sometimes takes to produce such a picture. And, in turn, it metaphorically highlights the real heroes your essay is about.
Including images of real art and the artist-at-work photo in your essay, further demonstrates how we otherwise would tend to gloss over, unwittingly, the many significant accomplishments of our past. Or, more accurately, they are glossed over for us , wittingly — by the media, by the powers that be, by whomever (i.e., Them) — in such a way as to be one day forgotten. And that is the very thing intended by those (same) demons who insist on absurdities such as welcoming statements, or land acknowledgements, etc. all wishing to effect a cultural amnesia. All of the accomplishments of our predecessors, whether large or small, are passed over by a majority of readers or viewers because it’s been engineered that way, and thus we are taught to diminish or dismiss truly heroic accomplishments of our ancestors; indeed, of our betters. A robot (AI) cannot produce Art at all, let alone of a monumental scale, any more than missiles and drones can produce war heroes worthy of the epithet as your Nation has done. They must not be forgotten.
Very good text. Didn't know this "Welcome to Country" farce had gone so deep in Australian official life and events. I can only imagine what would happen if someone tried to perform a leftist ritual of that sort here in... I don't know. The Legión parade on Holy Week or something like that. There'd be blood for sure. Spain has taken its evident and inescapable modernist beating like the rest of Western countries, but there's quite some evident resistance to the "conversion" of many of its popular attitudes and symbols when it comes to nationhood.
The Liberal Party offered no alternative here, in fact were worse in many regards including on immigration. Labor first preference votes are the same as they always are including when they lost past elections, but Liberal Party votes collapsed. The message to take away from this is that Australians have rejected the Liberal Party, not that Labor received landslide support.
We haven't seen yet what will happen if Australians have a competent nationalist party they can vote for.
Hahaha that's very typical for Americans to interpret everything as being about them. Trump was a factor but not a very big one, he wasn't talked about *that* much.
It was mainly rising dissatisfaction with the Liberal Party along with a shockingly incompetent campaign. They're confused about what they believe in and they have no talent left, I will be surprised if they can remain a major party for much longer. Hopefully a real right wing alternative can replace them in coming elections.
Yes, very true about us Americans. But that said, our mainstream media likes to blame everything on Donald Trump. Our reporters have a serious case of Trump Derangement Syndrome. So, any turn of events that can be interpreted as a setback to Donald Trump, well, that’s how our corporate/Woke media will interpret it. Kangaroo seen giving Nazi salute? Fascist Trump to blame!
Great article, although far too complimentary to the English re: Gallipoli, imo. Do you know anything about Australian-Celtic roots?
Gallipoli was a disaster and I plan to write a piece sometime in the future discussing Churchill's great betrayal of Australia
Incredible post, a tour de force of historical knowledge apparently lost to most Australians, and certainly unknown to the rest of the world.
Men... You're a legend I must say.

Sad, frustrating times.
